Strides around Sterling

I can't really write about our January trip to Sterling, Colorado. Nancy's Dad passed away and week was a blur of sad moments and memorials.  Everything is too raw.

Instead, here is a series of photos from Sterling, a small town on Colorado's Eastern Plains. You might never visit Sterling aside from a late-night stop off the interstate, which won't spread any of the town's flavor. There's an Overland Trail Museum close to I-76 and the South Platte River's channels, but the city boasts many charms.

If you find yourself in places like Sterling, go over that railroad bridge, stop for coffee downtown or walk the old bank blocks around the courthouse. Don't paint this country's small places with a broad brush. The places and their peoples deserve better. Collect what snippets you can, make no judgments and don't assume you'll return.
